3 Questions to Ask Yourself to know if you are Retirement Ready

Retirement Planning

Imagine you are reading the last paragraph of the book you loved so much. It gives a great feel that you are about to complete it. At the same time, it makes you feel missing such a good read if you finish the last paragraph! ‘Retirement’ is just another word for many. But, for the person who is undergoing this phase, it is a mixed-feeling than a word!

There comes a day for everyone where one should decide and say this is enough. However, deciding ‘that’ day is more difficult than one could imagine. Few feel happy for the relaxed and peaceful life they have after experiencing a complete life and few feel sad for they are going to miss the active professional life that they have been living for the past 3 or 4 decades.

Unable to decide when is the right time for you to retire? Here are 3 simple questions to ask yourself if you are retirement ready.
  • Unable to Cope with Job Responsibilities - The transition into aging slows you down gradually. The body will be in degenerative process and you will feel exhausted every evening after the work. Look out for these other signs as well.
    • Both your physical and mental abilities will lose their accuracy and perfection. You will take more time to function than you used to.
    • The same job responsibilities that you have been fulfilling for more than a few decades will become tough.
    • Your subordinates and other colleagues will extend their hand proactively,  to help you to do your job.
    • The body will constantly remind you to take a rest by causing various body pains and health issues.
  •  Financial Stability – Retirement should give a relaxing and peaceful life after having lived a life that is full of responsibilities and difficulties. And, financial stability will give you peace of mind.
    • Retired life is unpredictable. No one knows what the future is holding for us and it is important for you to ensure you have sufficient funds.
    • Search for other income sources if you have limited funds or if you are not confident financially, then say a big no to retirement.
    • Plan where you are going to live and its living costs, income sources and other aspects of life. Have a detailed plan in hand for everything post retirement.
    • Ask yourself if you can live the retired life with the money you have. Retire early if you have sufficient finances.
  • Emotional Needs – People become emotional or rather matured as they grow. They crave for human relationships than the material stuff as a job or business.
    • After all these busy years, see if your heart is longing to spend as much time as possible with your family. If it is what you want, then it is time.
    • If you have a passion which you have suppressed for so long to meet your responsibilities and now your heart is complaining about it; then there would be no better time for you that this to retire.
    • There are some seniors who retire early to indulge themselves in travelling various places. If you are one of these kind and your heart says it, then it is the time.
    • You may want to consider what your bloodline is saying about your health. If they are complaining about your health issues, then you should probably listen to them and take rest.
Deciding when to retire is undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions in life. There is so much calculation that goes into it before calling it a ‘retirement’. Consider every aspect of life and decide if this is the right time for you to experience the truest form of independence of life.
